Acupressure can be especially helpful for re-balancing the body and relieving stagnant Qi otherwise known as PMS. As a women's health specialist in Chinese medicine and acupressure I have seen incredible results with my clients using acupressure points for pms relief.

Using acupressure points does what exactly?

  • Open new channels where energy or Qi was blocked,

  • starts the energy flowing in the liver (the main organ responsible for PMS),

  • and breaks up stagnation in the body (the main cause of PMS in Chinese medicine).

When dealing with pms we're looking at the liver. When Qi in the liver stagnates you get PMS symptoms. Remember that Qi is reffered to as the universal life force or energy that flows through all of us.

These 2 acupressure-acupuncture points for PMS relief are located on the liver meridian (an energetic line that flows up from the big toe, through the the inside of the leg and attaches to the liver organ itself and finishes at the eye). Using these specific points has a direct impact on the organ itself.

Liver 3 point

Liver 3 is one of the most common points I use to help my clients regulate their menstrual cycles. It is the source point of the liver which is like hitting the re-set button.

This point will be very sensitive, and pressure should be kept consistently held until pain subsides.

Liver 9 point

Liver 9 is another great point for moving stagnation in the liver specifically.

Stagnant liver qi symptoms include breast tenderness, emotions of frustration and cramping in the lower abdomen, all symptoms of PMS. Point located on inside of leg, approx 4 inches up from knee cap.

How to use Acupunture Points for pms Relief

You can start using acupressure yourself, hold points for up to 5 minutes at a time. You can do this several times a day if you like at the beginning. Hold points until the pain subsides. The lactic acid in the muscles constricting this area of blocked energy will release and energy will start to flow again.

 

Other Natural PMS Remedies

Acupressure and or acupuncture points for pms relief works, however my teacher an acupuncturist always told us to heal through foods. So if you have PMS symptoms and want to get rid of them for good, go to the root of the porblem.

First look at your diet. And eliminate any fatty or fried foods, stay away from butter, alcohol, cigarettes, dairy and eggs. Eating too much meat is hard on the liver as well. Look at cleansing the liver for more information.
