How to use acupressure technique for beginners
Being an effective acupressurist means being able to feel energy- period. And don't worry everyone can feel energy; it might just take some focus and practice at first. You never know you might even have a gift for it!
The idea with acupressure is that by using the firm but gentle pressure of your fingers, you are releasing blocked energy or fullness in a point or tonifying a deficiency.
When I practice I can sense when a point is releasing. I feel heat and a pulse under my fingers. With practice you will be able to tell when a point is very tight or blocked or deficient if it gives way and you can push you're fingers in far and easily.
What do you feel when having acupressure?
tingling sensations,
the chills,
sensations of heat,
muscle spasms or twitches
dep state of relaxation
Energy is passing through new channels and connecting again. Emotional releases are all part of the experience and very normal. Most people do not realize just how much crap or emotional weight they carry with them in differen't locations in the physical body.
If you're feeeling down in the dumps, or anxious and don't know how to get around a certain feeling that keeps popping up in your life, give acupressure a try. You might just be pleasantly surprised with the results!
How it Works
When a point is blocked It is very tight and or painful upon palpation or pressure. Press where it hurts is a sure fire way to know you've hit the right spot. If it weren't sore there wouldn't be a problem.
The best fingers to use are either the thumb or middle finger. Press until it becomes sensitive and hold with even pressure until you start to feel a pulsating rhythm. Ease up on the pressure a bit and see what happens.
You'll find as you continue working the point you can always go in a little deeper as it releases.
Hold the point for anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes then move onto another point. You can also try moving your thumb in a circular motion counter clockwise on the point to help it release. Opposite or clockwise motion if the point deficient.
How to use acupressure technique advanced:
If you want to go a step further and really make your work effective state clearly you're intention before starting. For example: my intention is to help Julia release this pain in such and such a place and to help hold this space where healing can occur. Intention is a big part of healing so make a statement or silent prayer before starting for optimum results.
The whole point of acupressure is to help your client move out of his head and back into the body. By bringing awareness to that part of the body you release tension from the inside out.
Whatever emotion you resist the body will store (in a specific location related to that issue) to help the mind continue on with its hectic business.
Eventually the body can no longer keep carrying the burden and breaks down. Your knee gives way, you're neck hurts, you put your back out all of this calling you're awareness or attention to now deal with it in a loving way. As they say what you resist persists!
